Open-cell spray foam insulation is a low-density, flexible polyurethane foam that expands aggressively at the moment of installation. As it cures, it locks itself into every void in the cavity — around wiring, plumbing, ductwork, and framing — creating a continuous air seal that fiberglass and traditional batts simply cannot match. In Miami's hot, humid climate, that continuous air seal is what keeps cooled, dehumidified indoor air from leaking out and humid outdoor air from leaking in.
Because open-cell foam has a softer, more flexible structure than its closed-cell counterpart, it also performs exceptionally well as a sound dampener. That is why it is the default recommendation for interior wall insulation in homes where bedrooms back up to living rooms, where there is a home theater, or where a nursery shares a wall with a noisy laundry. It expands roughly 100 times its liquid volume, which means even unevenly framed cavities get fully sealed.
Best Applications for Open-Cell Spray Foam in Miami:
- Conditioned attic insulation — Sprayed under the roof deck to bring the attic into the building envelope
- Interior wall soundproofing — Bedrooms, home theaters, home offices, and nursery walls
- Cathedral & vaulted ceilings — Fills sloped rafter bays where batts cannot conform
- Around plumbing & wiring — Wraps cleanly around obstacles that fiberglass leaves uninsulated
- Bonus rooms & over-garage spaces — Seals the floor cavity above unconditioned garages
- New construction framing — Maximum coverage installed during the build process
